In other business, the board approved Main Street closure for Urisinus College's commencement ceremonies May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The board also approved a street closure for St. Eleanor’s 100th anniversary on May 22. It will travel down Locust Street to Fifth Avenue, and from Fifth Avenue up Park Avenue to Chestnut Street; the route will follow Chestnut Street to the former church.

Township Manager Geoffrey Thompson announced that a group of Ursinus students will be installing medallions to storm drain inlets across Collegeville. Professor Rich Wallace’s Environmental Studies class will be taking on this project.

Students will apply the medallions to the 363 storm drain inlets in the borough, alerting residents not to dump anything down the inlets, which drain directly to our local creeks and streams. The medallions feature a fish and logo that reads "No Dumping, Drains to Creek!"

Solicitor Mark Hosterman discussed his revisions of the solicitation ordinance, updating the current ordinance. Revisions will include things such as fees for groups, registry with police officials, exemptions for nonprofits and fines for violations. For more information, call the borough at 610-489-9208.

In the public forum, Craig Farr, of Collegeville Crossing, presented his suggestions for more efficient snow removal near crosswalks. Farr’s outlines noted that it was especially difficult for children to navigate the entry points during heavy snowfall. The board considered his presentation and decided to talk to the snowplow drivers this year to see if this was a viable option.

Tax collector Kelly Taylor discussed an idea she had for placement of recycling bins in the park areas.

“That’s a great idea, Kelly, thank you,” said councilman Arnold Mann.

Also during the meeting, Ursinus Interim President John Corson thanked the committee for its dedication to Collegeville and to Ursinus College. Corson went on to discuss the college’s newly selected president, Bobby Fong, who will be starting this July.
