How Much Has Montgomery County Grown? US Census Weighs In

Montgomery County is one of the fastest growing areas in all of Pennsylvania.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- U.S. Census data for 2015 has been released, showing the growth rate in Montgomery County and across Pennsylvania.

Montgomery County experienced significant growth in 2015 compared to the rest of the state, increasing its population by 2,656, or .3 percent, data shows.

The total population was listed at 819,264.

Montgomery County is the third most populous county in the state, trailing the following:

  1. Philadelphia
  2. Allegheny
  3. Montgomery
  4. Bucks
  5. Delaware
  6. Lancaster
  7. Chester

Montgomery County's .3 percent increase is among the top several increases in the state. Cumberland County led the way with a 1.2 percent increase.

Other interesting tidbits from the census:

Between July 1, 2014, and July 1, 2015, Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, D.C.-Va.-Md.-W.Va., surpassed Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, Pa.-N.J.-Del.-Md., to become the sixth most populous metro area. New York-Newark-Jersey City, N.Y.-N.J.-Pa., remained the most populous, followed by Los Angeles, Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, Ill.-Ind.-Wis., Dallas, and Houston.

The Census Bureau develops county, metro area, and micro area population estimates by measuring population change since the most recent census. Births, deaths, administrative records and survey data to develop estimates of population.
