In search of pizza with pizzazz: Rocco’s Brick Oven Pizzeria
Variety of pizzas and desserts greet foodie at second stop
Priding many of its specialty pizzas on the wood-fire brick oven approach, Rocco’s Brick Oven Pizza in the Marketplace at Collegeville is known for reeling in the crowds.
For its famous wood-fire, brick-oven baked pies, Rocco’s offers not only a large, but also a personal pizza, and fortunately for the belly and the stretch of dollars, the more quaint size is far from a small portion.
The traditional Neapolitan-inspired pie, Margherita pizza carries the light hint of warmer seasons with throws of basil and mozzarella cheese above a soft, yet sturdy crust. Luckily for my eventual next-day cravings, unfinished slices are something to look forward to, and this slightly square pizza is well suited for the bonus of leftovers.

Another personal-sized pizza available with either grilled chicken or shrimp is mingled with roasted red peppers and zesty pesto sauce. Choosing the seafood option, the shrimp offers a worthy bite fitting with the complement of the add-on of olive oil.
Per slice, the taco pizza is packed with tiny cuts of steak, fresh lettuce, chopped tomatoes and the hint of onions, while savory Gorgonzola cheese meets a quick toss of hot sauce on the seat of a crispy crust.

When it comes to next-day eats, some sugar-bathed dessert samplings following hearty slices of pizza are better the morning after dining out. Hello, breakfast. Both a chocolate and a plain cannoli, Sicilian and given the chance to thicken in their creamy ricotta-cheese sweetened fillings overnight, dish up as quite the gift straight from a to-go container in the fridge.
Tiramisu, selectively served only on weekends, reaches a whole other level of satisfying the appetite with its merging of fluffy cake textures and the soft whip of cream doused in coffee. Without much difficulty, the dish is friendly to the cutting efforts of a cold spoon.
