PJPII Field Hockey Girls Are In It To Win It
The junior varsity and varsity girls Panthers field hockey team at Pope John Paul II High School competed in a scrimmage against the Norristown Eagles Tuesday.
Music from a portable boombox blared from the Norristown field hockey fields today as the PJP Panthers girls field hockey team took to the field for practice. Coach Andrea Carr told the girls to take this scrimmage just as seriously as they would any other game, because, after all, it is a game. Being a young team, playing together well is key for the success of the team.
"This year, we have six seniors compared to the eight that we had last year," Carr said. "We have a young team, about 17 sophmores and 17 juniors. I think it's going to be a very competitive year."
The Panthers played extremely well on the field, both offensively and defensively. They worked very well off each other, and worked hard to protect their goal while also attempting to score. This is an improvement that Carr hopes will help the team to finish in a higher standing this year.

"Last year, we came in fifth place," said Carr. "I think we did well, but could have done better because the team that won the PAC 10, we beat them."
In addition to the junior varsity and varsity team, PJPII now has a freshman team, with approximately 14 girls.

Coach Carr has a good outlook for the season and has faith in all her girls.
"They're playing very well as a team," Carr said. "They're all coming together, and they're all friends with each other now, which is great to see, especially the second year of a new school."
