Pope John Paul II Boys Soccer Kicks Off Their First Game
The PJPII boys Panthers fought hard for their 5-2 win against the Phoenixville Phantoms.
There's no doubt that the PJPII boys varsity soccer team can come together in the most dire of situations, and they certainly proved that tonight at Phoenixville by coming back from a 2-0 deficit to a 5-2 win.
"I think we were pretty lucky in that our first half performance was not that great," said head coach Jerry DeLeo.
"Phoenixville played excellent."
Despite being down two goals going into the second half, the boys never gave up. Scoring their first goal on a penalty kick was senior Pete DeLeo.

"We drew a penalty kick in the second half when we were down two to nothing, and that started an avalanche of goals," said DeLeo.
The avalanche of goals was continued by Pete DeLeo, who scored his second goal on a corner, and Nick Mares, whose goal put PJPII ahead by one. Showing no mercy, and giving it their all, PJPII went on to score two more goals, one by Dave Molinaro and the final by Ryan Ianovale, giving them the win over Phoenixville with a final score of 5-2.

"When things go bad for a team, sometimes they go bad," DeLeo said after the game. "That's what we saw happen to Phoenixville today. But they're a really good team. This was our first game of the year, and I think we are going to compete for our division after what I saw today. I think the guys are really tuned in to what they need to do."
