In addition to the giveaway, Philly police and firefighters will partake in a hoagie making competition to earn a charity donation.

PHILADELPHIA — Wawa is celebrating Annual Hoagie Day by giving away 15,000 free turkey hoagies Wednesday.
The public is invited to Arch Street between 5th and 6th street in front of the National Constitution Center at noon Wednesday for their free sandwiches.
This year will feature hoagies made with seven tons of ingredients along with a celebration dedicated to honoring our military, veterans, fire and police, our everyday heroes, and The Wawa Foundation’s ongoing partnership with the USO.

Police officers from Philadelphia’s police districts and representatives of Philadelphia’s Fire Department will face off in a hoagie-building competition to benefit charities of their choice.
Members of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and Navy Talent Acquisition Group Philadelphia will then go head-to-head to benefit the USO.
Wawa will make individual contributions of $3,000 to the charities of all four teams.
The Wawa Foundation’s in-store fundraising campaign will also present an $800,000 to the USO.
There will also be a special closing performance by Voices of Service, a group of veteran performers who, under the umbrella of the Center for American Military Music Opportunities, elevates and empowers service members, veterans, and military-connected families through music.
USO Care to Connect QR codes will be displayed onsite for individuals to share digital messages of gratitude and encouragement to service members.
The day will also include free all-day admission to the National Constitution Center
The first Hoagie Day was held in 1992, when the hoagie was proclaimed the “Official Sandwich of Philadelphia” by then-Mayor Ed Rendell.
Each year, Hoagie Day is also focused on saluting and honoring local and national heroes, including fire, police, and the great men and women of the U.S. military who keep us safe, as well as celebrating Wawa’s partnership with the USO, America’s leading military support nonprofit since 1941.
