Accused Driver In Hit-And-Run That Killed Teen Girl Captured: Feds

PHILADELPHIA — Federal authorities Thursday took a man into custody they said struck and killed a 14-year-old girl in West Philadelphia, then drove off.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force arrested Marvin Wicker, 40, on the unit block of West Coulter Street in Philadelphia Thursday.

Wicker was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for homicide by vehicle and related charges, in relation to the Sept. 26 incident that killed Dawn Watson, 14.

Authorities said Watson was crossing the street on the 6500 block of Haverford Avenue with her mother when she was fatally struck.

Philadelphia Police on Oct. 1 said they found what the believed to be the striking vehicle.

A warrant for Wicker's arrest was issued Oct. 5, and he was taken into custody without incident at about 2 p.m. Thursday at a rooming house in the city's Germantown neighborhood, federal authorities said.

"The relentless work of our Marshals Service investigators, working with detectives from the Philadelphia Police Crash Investigation Unit, resulted in the swift apprehension of Marvin Wicker," Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Task Force, said. "I hope this arrest can help ease the suffering for everyone who knew Dawn Watson."
