After Hostile Weekend, Eagles Fans Should Be Wary In Minnesota

PHILADELPHIA, PA — After what went down this weekend, Eagles fans attending the Super Bowl should watch their backs in Vikings country.

In the very least, they shouldn’t expect a warm welcome.

The Vikings and their “SKOL”-crying fanbase were, after all, just one game away from playing a home game in the Super Bowl. Not only did the Eagles dominate them in dramatic fashion last week on the field, winning 38-7, but Eagles fans were less than hospitable to the visiting Minnesotans.

Various footage from the parking lots and streets surrounding Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday showed a mob scene of apocalyptic scale, with Vikings fans wearing purple walking through jeering crowds of hundreds of screaming and cursing Eagles fans. In some cases, cans of unopened beer were hurled at those dressed in purple. Empty cans and larger pieces of trash flew through the air. It sometimes looked more like a medieval burning at the stake, or a “Game of Thrones”-esque mob beating, than a tailgating crowd. Meanwhile, there were reports that fans similarly fired beer cans at the Vikings team bus on its way into the stadium.

And back at home, Minnesota took note of how their faithful were treated in the City of Brotherly Love.

Vikings fans are reportedly cooking up several schemes ahead of Super Bowl 52, which will be hosted at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Feb. 4.

One plot involves a bunch of fans signing up as Uber drivers, picking up Eagles fans, and then dropping them off in the wrong areas, according to New England-area outlet NESN.

On Twitter, the hashtag #BanEaglesFans drew traction on Tuesday among fans who planned to ban Philadelphians from area bars and restaurants.

Most notably of all, the Daily Snark reports that another group of fans plans to take a more direct route in their retribution: throwing things at Eagles fans, the same treatment that Vikings fans received. Here’s a glimpse of what organizers wrote on a since deleted Facebook event:

“We are rallying and tossing stuff at anyone with anything eagles on too show them the same hospitality they showed our fans and team in philly “skol” got a lot of unneeded junk sitting at your house ? stop by with it and toss stuff until your hearts content , we will be giving prizes to the person with the most bullseyes as well as throwing purple paint bombs , to make there ugly feathery turquoise jerseys the right color dress in full Vikings gear All you need is some folding chairs a cooler with beer and a good arm SKOLLLL! This is our city!”

Birds fans, be warned.

To be fair, Minnesota travel planner Drew Baydala offered similar warnings on CBS Philadelphia to Vikings fans coming to Philly last weekend.

“I know it sounds ridiculous, like we're almost talking about gangs here,” he said. “But it's no joke down in Philly. It really isn't.”

Apparently, it’s no joke in Minneapolis, either. It really isn’t.
