Allan Domb Resigns From Philly City Council, Eyes Mayoral Run
The two-term, at-large Democratic Philadelphia City Councilman is considering running for mayor after announcing his resignation Monday.

PHILADELPHIA — A member of the Philadelphia City Council Monday announced his resignation from the municipal entity and said he's eyeing the mayor's office.
At-large councilman Allan Domb Monday said he is vacating his position with the council.
"As I announce my resignation from the Philadelphia City Council today, I am immensely grateful to Philadelphians for putting their trust in me to lead and I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished over the past nearly seven years," Domb said in a statement. "From putting hundreds of thousands of dollars back into the pockets of hardworking families, to helping keep our hospitality industry afloat during the peak of the pandemic, to providing vital relief for workers and businesses, to protecting homeowners and supporting educational and workforce initiatives, we have delivered real results for the city and its people. But there is more work to be done."

Domb, who is 67 and comes from a real estate background before being elected to the council in 2015, said Philadelphia "is at a crossroads."
"Philadelphia is the poorest big city in the country," he said. "We are staring down the highest murder rate in our history. Too many people don't feel safe in their homes, their cars, on our transit systems and streets. Too many residents and businesses lack the basic opportunities necessary to thrive in our communities. But while the challenges we face are great, so too is the opportunity we have to be the city our people deserve. Now more than ever, we need to enact common sense and practical solutions to improve the lives of all Philadelphians, prioritizing public safety in a meaningful way."

On social media in June, Domb said he is "seriously exploring the option of running for Mayor of Philadelphia."
"Philadelphia needs a leader to build safer communities, enthusiastically recruit new businesses, create family-sustaining jobs that shrink our wealth gap, and who will actually fight poverty, not just make it more comfortable to live in," he said. "There is a lot of work ahead but I look forward to building the necessary bridges, tackling our problems with resilience and energy, and bringing people to the table who are excited to bring about real change for our great City."
Mayor Jim Kenney's term expires in 2024.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, those eying mayoral run are Philadelphia City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart; Jeff Brown, who owns a chain of grocery stores; and Council members Cherelle Parker, Derek Green, Helen Gym, and María Quiñones-Sánchez.
