3. Philadelphia City Council authorizes hearings on Academy of Natural Sciences closure (metrophiladelphia.com) — Philadelphia City Council is launching subpoena-backed hearings into Drexel's decision to close the Academy of Natural Sciences museum on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at month's end. Lawmakers and supporters hope to uncover financial details, explore legal and funding options, and keep a key science destination for city children from disappearing, while state and city leaders help broker solutions.
4. I-95 Ramp Will Close—How to Avoid a Thursday Night Headache (mychesco.com) — Northeast Philadelphia drivers should prepare for an overnight closure of the Castor Avenue ramp to northbound I-95 from 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, to 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Traffic will detour via Castor, Aramingo, and Adams avenues to the Betsy Ross Bridge interchange as PennDOT readies a long-term I-95 lane shift starting in early October.
5. Philly's historical plaques being removed for maintenance (audacy.com) — If you've noticed some of Philadelphia's familiar blue-and-gold historical markers missing, they've likely been temporarily removed for scheduled maintenance, not stolen. The state's historical commission is refurbishing about 400 local plaques, a process that takes roughly six to eight weeks, with yellow tags left on posts to explain the temporary absence.
