Cause Of Philly Prison Escapee's Death Revealed By Health Officials

PHILADELPHIA — The cause of death for the escaped Philadelphia prison inmate has been revealed by local health officials.
According to the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office, Gino Hagenkotter, 34, died of a drug overdose. The manner of death was determined to be accidental.
Hagenkotter escaped custody Nov. 30 while on work duty in the orchard behind the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility at 8201 State Road, Philadelphia officials said.

He was incarcerated at Riverside Correctional Facility for low level crimes, according to authorities.
Hagenkotter was then found dead at about 2:28 p.m. Monday in a warehouse located on the 1100 block of E. Venango Street.

Emergency responders were called to the warehouse Monday for a report of an unresponsive man.
Philadelphia Fire Department Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead on location.
A preliminary investigation of the scene revealed a broken air vent and a pushed-out fan, suggesting forced entry. Additionally, a ladder was found lying nearby.
