'Cenrtal Phila:' New Traffic Sign In Philadelphia Goes Viral For Typo

PennDOT said the sign is now covered and being fixed. But the internet doesn't forget and is roasting the error on social media.


PHILADELPHIA — Drivers heading to Interstate 95 from Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia got a chuckle out of a new overhead traffic sign.

The new sign is going a bit viral thanks to a spelling error.

When heading to I-95 from Cottman, drivers saw the new sign reading "Cenrtal Phila." Not "Central Phila."

Users on Philadelphia's subreddits took to comment sections to poke fun at the typo.

"Ncie," one wrote.

"This will become an icon," another user chimed in.

"Cenrtal Jawn Jawn."

"Wahts wrnog wtih it ?" one user asked.

"You’ve never been to Cenrtal Phila before? Great place, really good bar scene!"

"i love my city," another person said.

Luckliy, PennDOT said the discrepancy is being addressed.

"We are aware of the misspelled sign at the new Cottman ramp at I-95 and have taken immediate action to address it,"PennDOT said in an email to Patch. "The sign has been covered, the misspelled word will be corrected tonight, and a corrected sign will be installed this week. All costs for correcting this error will be covered by the contractor."
