David Bowie Art

Noted artist Vian Borchert's paintings of David Bowie are on exhibit in the group exhibition "Bowie Bash" on view at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia. The beautiful exhibition that celebrated the legacy of the late singer is curated by curator Meegan Coll. An array of many different mediums are presented in this splendidly and thoughtfully put together art show.

The exhibit opened on Jan 6 and runs till Jan 23, 2023. The David Bowie exhibition located on the museum's main floor celebrates David Bowie’s creative legacy. The museum's David Bowie exhibition is in collaboration with the city of Philadelphia "Philly Loves Bowie" commemorating the late David Bowie with a portion of the proceeds supporting Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

In regards to Borchert's two portrait paintings "The Young David Bowie" and "David Bowie" both original artwork with medium: acrylic on canvas board, these paintings depict the artist's love for Bowie through a painterly style. Borchert's paintings of David Bowie capture the late singer's essence in an expressionist take. Through strong usage of brush strokes and emphasis on the facial expression, the artist aims to bring forth the dreamy but determined character of David Bowie. Songs such as "Heroes", "Wild is the Wind" and "Let's Dance" are some of Borchert's favorite songs. The portrait paintings highlight Borchert's deep appreciation of the singer with special attention to the rendering of Bowie's eyes that the artist finds to be whimsical and magical. Borchert states that eyes are the windows to the soul, and it is through the eyes of Bowie that one can enter the artwork and get a glimpse of the wonderful soul that Bowie radiated." Moreover, Borchert exclaims, "Growing up listening to David Bowie's hits, I've always felt guided by his artistic spirit and wonderful voice and lyrics. Bowie has been a source of inspiration for me as an artist through my artistic journey, from making murals to acrylic paintings of the late singer - I always felt that stardust element that Bowie radiated. Bowie's creative and avant-garde approach to everything art, makes him so special in my eyes along being thoroughly a legacy not only in the music world but also in the art world as well."
