Dogs Attack Woman In South Philly, 1 Killed By Off-Duty Cop: Police
One of three pit bulls that were attacking a woman Tuesday morning in South Philadelphia was shot and killed by the off-duty police officer.
PHILADELPHIA — An off-duty Philadelphia Police officer shot and killed a pit bull that was attacking a woman Tuesday morning.
The incident unfolded at about 10:38 a.m. on the 1500 block of South 58th Street.
According to police, the officer was in his personal vehicle when he saw a woman being attacked by several dogs.

The dogs' owner, a 21-year-old man, was working to get the dogs to stop attacking the woman, 52
Police said the officer shot his service weapon several times, ending the attack.

The woman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania-Cedar for bite wounds to her leg, arm, and head. She is in stable condition.
One of the pit bulls was found dead in the owner's backyard and taken into custody by Philadelphia Animal Care & Control.
The owner was able to gain control of a second dog, but the third dog has not been found, police said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including what prompted the dogs to attack the woman.
On May 2, a Philadelphia Police officer shot and killed a dog that was attacking a man in the city's Mantua section.
The officer, 43, is a two-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and is assigned to the 17th Police District. He has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs and Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations.
