Felonies Withdrawn In Philly Pride Parade Flag Burning Incident

While the felony charges filed against Ryan Segin were withdrawn, she still faces two lesser charges in the Pride Parade incident.

PHILADELPHIA – Felony charges filed against an 18-year-old New Jersey woman who allegedly tried to burn a pro-police "thin blue line" American flag have been withdrawn, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. However she still faces two misdemeanor charges in the incident.

The DA's office said on Wednesday, June 13 it withdrew the felony attempted arson and felony risking catastrophe charges filed against Ryan Segin, 18, of Woodbine New Jersey.

The charges were withdrawn after an investigation into the incident by the DA's office

Segin is accused of trying to set a flag on fire in a crowd at the Philadelphia Pride Parade on Sunday, June 10 at 12th and Locust streets.

According to the DA's office, Segin attempted to pour accelerant on the flag and tried to light it on fire.

Flares allegedly protruding from her backpack, as well, according to the DA's office.

Police intervened before the flag could be set alight and took her into custody, the DA's office said.

A search of her bag found two road flares, a can of paint thinner, and a blue lighter stick, according to the DA's office

Segin is still facing possession of an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person charges. Both are misdemeanor crimes.

Her trial is set for Aug. 15, according to court records.
