Jim's Steak Fire Caused By Electrical Wiring: Fire Officials
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Jim's staff during the iconic cheesesteak spot's closure after the fire last week.

PHILADELPHIA — Officials in Philadelphia have determined what caused the blaze at Jim's Steaks on South Street last week.
The Philadelphia Fire Marshals Office said the fire that broke out Friday morning at the iconic cheesesteak spot was caused by an electrical wiring issues.

Firefighters were focusing on the building ductwork and the heating ventilation air conditioning units when battling the fire.
Jim's owner Ken Silver said the business's HVAC system had been malfunctioning, and one of the assistant managers reported smelling an electrical odor when she arrived early Friday morning.

The manager saw smoke and had all workers evacuate.
Crews had the fire under control by about 1:33 p.m. Friday.
More than 125 Philadelphia Fire Department members responded to the fire.
Silver vows to rebuild the store, which sustained less damage than previously believed.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Jim's employees during the closure.
Those who are looking to support the workers are asked to donate the cost of a cheesesteak or two to the campaign.
