Here are the top stories today in Philadelphia:
- A gunman tried to rob Mayfair Pizza and shot a mother and daughter behind the counter of the family-owned business. This horrific violent crime happened on the 7400 block of Frankford Avenue on Wednesday night. However, the owner who is also the husband and father of the victims subdued the gunman with the help from his customers and held him until police arrived. (Philadelphia Patch)
- President Joe Biden's new budget proposal focuses on more support to Medicare, more taxes to the wealthy and a call to the Republican Party to work with him on this plan. In 10 years, he wants to cut $3 trillion from the budget but Biden's package of tax and spending priorities is unlikely to pass House or the Senate due to partisan gridlock.(WPVI-TV)
- State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta is running for a higher office. After losing a U.S. Senate primary to John Fetterman last year, he has now announced he wants the Auditor General job-a big statewide office. The 32 year-old lawmaker wants to take Democratic control back since a Republican won the office in 2020. (pennlive.com)
