Philadelphia Orchestra opens season with a 'new' Bernstein piece that tries to do too much (inquirer.com) — Philadelphia music lovers can catch the Orchestra's season-opening program this weekend at the Kimmel Center, featuring a newly created orchestral suite from Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" and Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Alexandre Kantorow. The concerts run Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Marian Anderson Hall, offering a fresh, jazz-tinged take on Bernstein alongside a fiery Brahms performance.
   

3. Cheyney, West Chester Join Statewide College Access Push (mychesco.com) — Philadelphia high school students will have new chances this fall to meet with State System universities at two local college fairs on November 4 and the Sen. Haywood College Fair on November 5. The statewide initiative, expanding on a prior Philadelphia pilot, also funds buses so students can visit campuses like East Stroudsburg and Lock Haven, making college exploration more accessible for city families.
   

4. High On Fire Announce New U.S. Tour Dates Through 2027 (themosh.net) — Metal fans in Philadelphia can catch High On Fire at Underground Arts on October 28 as part of the band's newly announced U.S. tour. The run also includes a Millersville stop the next night before continuing through the Northeast and West Coast into early 2027, giving local heavy-music lovers a clear date to mark on their calendars.
