1. Wild Card Series Preview: Phillies Vs. Braves (patch.com) — Phillies fans are gearing up for a tense Wild Card showdown with the Braves after Philadelphia clinched the final playoff spot in a muddy Citizens Bank Park finale. The series preview breaks down game times, TV details, pitching matchups, and why the Phillies' elite rotation could once again fuel an underdog October run despite injuries and tough left-handed Atlanta pitching.

2. 2 Starbucks Shops In Philadelphia Close Permanently (patch.com) — Philadelphia coffee drinkers are losing two Starbucks locations, with permanent closures on South Street in Center City and North 2nd Street in Northern Liberties as part of a wider corporate downsizing. The move, which affects a unionized store, is fueling ongoing tensions between Starbucks and Starbucks Workers United, even as the company promotes a new strategy to revive its traditional coffeehouse feel and shifts workers to other city locations.

3. $21M renovation underway at Kensington's McPherson Square Library (audacy.com) — McPherson Square Library in Kensington is getting a $21 million renovation that city leaders say marks a turning point in Philadelphia's efforts to stabilize the neighborhood. The project will restore the historic building, improve accessibility, and create new community spaces, following a sharp reduction in the number of people living on nearby streets during the city's anti-encampment push.

4. SBJ Unpacks: Philly's power broker (sportsbusinessjournal.com) — Philadelphia sports and civic power player Dan Hilferty is reshaping the Flyers, Comcast Spectacor, and the future South Philadelphia Sports Complex while drawing on decades of local business and fundraising experience. From stabilizing children's healthcare to helping land the 2026 World Cup and now co-leading a new arena project with the 76ers, he's become a central figure in how major events and teams affect city life.

5. Engineering School revamps digital media design degree, adds AI requirements (thedp.com) — Penn's School of Engineering in University City is overhauling its Digital Media Design major into a new Visual and Interactive Computing degree that bakes in more artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction coursework.
