Philadelphia Police Officer Dies After Being Found Unresponsive

Officer Lynneice Hill, 44, died after she was found unresponsive in her police vehicle Friday night in South Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police officer died after she was found unresponsive in her patrol vehicle Friday evening in South Philadelphia.

Officer Lynneice Hill, 44, died Friday after a passerby found her responsive at about 9 p.m. in her vehicle in the TJ Maxx/Home Goods parking lot on the 1800 block of Christopher Columbus Boulevard, police said.

The passerby called 911 and responders tried CPR on Hill, who was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

There is no word on what caused her death, other than she suffered a medical emergency.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said Hill was with the department for at least 24 years and was assigned to the Third District as a school officer.

Hill was married to fellow Philadelphia Police Officer Dennis Smith and was the mother of three children, Action News reports.

While Outlaw said she did not know Hill personally, she said he had heard about Hill's dedication to justice and the job.

"It's just tragic how this unfolded," she said.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby said hill served with "humility, distinction, and integrity."

"It's with a heavy heart that we mourn the sudden passing of dedicated police officer, Lynneice Hill," he said in a statement. "We pray for Officer Hill's family, friends, and colleagues with the Philadelphia police department. The FOP will never forget her dedication and contributions to the police department and her community."
