Philly's Rocky Statue Curse Goes International, Dooming Ecuador In World Cup

Thousands of Ecuadorian fans packed the Philadelphia Museum of Art's steps before their national team faced Côte d'Ivoire. The sea of yellow included an Ecuador jersey on the Rocky Balboa statue.

Côte d'Ivoire defeated Ecuador, 1-0, on Sunday night. Coincidence? Not if you believe in the Rocky statue's power.

According to the "Rocky Statue Curse," visiting fans who place their team's jersey on the statue end up dooming their team.

In recent years, the Eagles have cruised to playoff victories after Rocky dons their opponents' jersey. Most recently, this happened before the Birds defeated the Washington Commanders in the 2025 NFC Championship.
