(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody! It's me, Patty-Pat Kozlowski, your host of the Philadelphia Daily — here to explain everything you need to know about what's happening in town. Today we'll cover these stories and more:

  • A former Philadelphia corrections officer is among several individuals arrested as a part of a smuggling and bribery operation in a Philadelphia prison.
  • A $3 million dollar scratch off lotto ticket was sold in Northeast Philadelphia.
  • There's a reason why the middle-finger is used so much in Philly: it's ranked one of the worst places for drivers.

But first, today's weather:

Fog in the morning; sunshine. High: 75 Low: 59.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Inmates called fellow prisoner Barry Garland, the "pizza man" because he delivered all the illegal goodies to them. At the Riverside Correctional Facility, Garland ran an operation out of his jail cell, in which drugs, weapons and other contraband were sold in the jail at an outrageous markup, with the aid of former Corrections Officer Khalif Workman. 2. Gus, the second famous groundhog in Pennsylvania has the tagline "keep on scratching" as he mascots for the state lotto games. Well, some lucky winner in Northeast Philadelphia recently bought a scratch-off lottery ticket and kept scratching to the tune of $3 million. According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, L&P Express at 5520 Whitaker Ave. sold a $3 Million Diamonds and Gold Scratch-Off. The business gets a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. (PA Patch)
  3. In a city that thinks a stop sign is a suggestion, it's no wonder Philadelphia ranked as one of the worst cities for driving. The City of Brotherly Love topped the list based on 30 key factors, according to a new report by WalletHub. The measured variables included gas prices, frequency of accidents, auto maintenance costs, and the number of auto-repair shops. We also placed first in highest parking rates and longest hours stuck in traffic. There was no reporting on the infamous "Philly Roll" of coasting through a stop sign. (VISTA.Today)
