But first, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart has resigned and plans to run for Mayor of Philadelphia. She enters a crowded contest of four City Council members, and is the third female to announce her run. "I spent the last five years from the outside saying, 'This is what's wrong, and this is how to fix it,'" she said. "I can take all that and hit the ground running." (inquirer.com)
  2. It was the debate that almost didn't happen. But two weeks before Election Day, John Fetterman and Dr. Oz Memet finally met and argued their positions for U.S. Senate. "Let's talk about the elephant in the room," said Fetterman. "I had a stroke. He's never let me forget that. And I might miss some words during this debate, mush two words together, but it knocked me down and I'm going to keep coming back up."(6abc)
  3. Philadelphia Phillies fans took to the streets to celebrate their team's trip to the World Series Sunday night. And they then took to the stores and online shopping to break retail records in merchandise sales. The previous 24-hour record was set by the Cubs in 2016 after they defeated the Dodgers in the NLCS. • In a city that loves its bells, food critic Craig LaBan will ring them no more. The long-time Inquirer food and dining out expert has been awarding Liberty Bell replicas at the end of his columns, just like the Michelin Guide gives out stars. Well, the bells toll no more. (billypenn.com)
