Philadelphia's Democratic mayoral primary race has a projected winner in Cherelle Parker after a hard fought campaign amid a crowded field.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia's newest mayor will likely be Cherelle Parker if political history repeats itself, as she's been projected the winner of the Democratic mayoral primary race.

In Philadelphia, the Democratic primary for the mayor is often a de facto race for the mayor's office in general, as the city is a Democratic stronghold.

Parker fended off opponents in a crowded field that polling showed several candidates in a dead heat leading up to Tuesday.
