🌱Sense of Lawlessness + Amtrak Click-Clack is Back+ Check Your Lotto$

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Hello, hello! I'm back in your inbox this morning with everything you need to know about what's happening in town. Today you'll find news about these stories and more...

  • Former Philly Mayor Michael Nutter says the 2023 mayor race is all about crime.
  • Remember the huge old fashioned clickety clack train info board at 30th Street Station? It's coming back.
  • Somebody in Philly's $2.4 million richer, so check those old lotto tickets!

But first, today's weather:

Morning drizzle, then rain. High: 55 Low: 52.

Here are the top stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Having spent eight years as mayor preceded by 14 years as a member of City Council, Michael Nutter understands what it takes to get elected in Philadelphia. He also understands the various constituencies seeking to have their voices heard at City Hall. As he was interviewed by the Philadelphia Business Journal, it was no surprise he called out the "sense of lawlessness" that the City has been overcome with and said the crowded field of mayoral candidates must make crime their top priority. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
  2. It's been almost four years since we heard the clickety-clack, flippidity flap of the iconic split-flap departures board at 30th Street Station. Riders, historians and transit junkies will be happy to know that officials confirmed they're bringing it back to Philadelphia's Amtrak hub. The downside for fans of the classic Solari display: it's for show only, eye candy for visitors, don't plan your train ride by it! (billypenn.com)
  3. Did you buy a Fast Play lottery ticket this weekend? Was it at a Sunoco gas station in Philadelphia? Well, then today might just be your lucky day! The largest-ever Fast Play ticket worth $2,419,372 was sold at the Sunoco at 630 Walnut Lane in Philadelphia on Saturday. Check your pockets, the kitchen junk drawer and your trash bags before trash day! (Daily Voice)

From my notebook:

  • Fans of Geno's Steaks in South Jersey no longer have to leave the state to get one, or even leave the house at all. The Philadelphia cheesesteak chain has joined a virtual food hall in Cherry Hill, according to a news release from Geno's. Foodiehall, at 1931 Olney Avenue, offers pickup and delivery from eight different restaurants, all under the same roof. Dan Goldberg created the concept, which opened in February 2022. That's all well and good if you want a Geno's Cheesesteak, however we'll let you in on a little secret-go on a tour of Mama's Meatballs, Cockadoodle Dan's and Lillo's Pizza; all within a 30-minute round trip of Cherry Hill and try their cheesesteaks. We think you'll have a favorite new cheesesteak joint faster than you can say, "Whiz witout". ( NJ Patch)
  • Well, we do love Schuylkill Punch! From the Philadelphia Water Department: "Cast your vote to make the Schuylkill, the drinking water source for nearly half of Philadelphia, the PA Organization for Watersheds and Rivers River of the Year:" (Philadelphia Water Department via Facebook)
  • Oh no! Right after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday!!! Philadelphia Department of Revenue: "🛎Friendly reminder Real Estate Tax bills were mailed and will arrive in your mailbox if they haven't already. ⬇️" (Philadelphia Department of Revenue via Facebook)
