Victim Of Car-Flipping Eagles Fans Gets Support From Local Community

Richard Pierce has lived on Arlington Street for nearly 30 years. On Sunday, overly rowdy youths flipped his car before the Super Bowl.

PHILADELPHIA — Critics of Philadelphia, its sports teams, and its residents expected the city to "burn" after the Eagles loss in Super Bowl LVII.

While the city remained peaceful, a group of nine people flipped a vehicle ahead of the game Sunday near Temple's campus.

Now, neighbors in the area are stepping up to support a long-time resident who was the victim of Sunday's vandalism.

Pierce, 70, has lived on the street since 1995 and holds both a bachelors and graduate degree from Temple, according to the campaign.

"During a block party for the Super Bowl, a handicapped Temple Alumni’s car was vandalized. This is completely unacceptable," the campaign page reads. "As fellow members of this community, this is a violation that needs to be corrected."

On top of the vandalism to his vehicle, organizers said Pierce is handicapped.

"There is no excuse for these actions committed especially for unsuspecting individuals that live in the community," the page reads. "Please help Rick and show support for our North Philadelphia residents!"

As of 10 a.m. Thursday, more than $14,300 has been raised to support Pierce.
