PHILADELPHIA, PA — One of the biggest snowstorms in recent memory battered the greater Philadelphia area on Sunday, and city residents took full advantage.

Hundreds took to the Philadelphia Art Museum once snow began accumulating Sunday to sled down the steps.

The iconic Philadelphia activity is a mark of a "real" snowstorm, as significant snowfall is needed to make the sleds fly.

Revelers took both to the famous steps in front of the museum as well as the steeper, longer hill behind the museum, which is preferred by many veterans.

It's not the smoothest ride. Sleds often must navigate bumps of the steps, as snow may not have made the slope sheer. Either way, they're in for a big bump when they reach the break between sets of steps.
