Several accidents were reported on 422 on Wednesday morning as a wintry mix cast a sheet of ice across many area roads, leading some commuters to describe it as a "skating rink."

A disabled vehicle blocked lanes at around 9:16 a.m. on the Route 29 ramp onto the eastbound lanes, delaying traffic, according to Montgomery County Active Incidents.

On the Facebook page "422 Sucks" commuters reported difficulties along the length of the road. A Christmas tree found its way into the middle of the eastbound lanes near Limerick.

Accidents were also reported just before 8 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Armand Hammer Boulevard.

It's not yet clear if there were any injuries.

The treacherous conditions led several area schools to close for the day.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and plan for delays.
