Chesco Mother Cut Child's Genitals With Scissors: DA

The mother told police that she grabbed scissors while changing the child's diaper and intentionally cut the child's genitalia, the DA said.

ELVERSON, PA — A Chester County woman is being charged after cutting her child's genitals with a pair of scissors, the Berks County District Attorney's Office said.

Ashley Marie Kase, 23, of the 1400 block of Red Hill Road in Elverson, faces charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and related counts, authorities said.

Child abuse detectives with the Berks County DA's Office were tipped off to suspected child abuse of Jan. 24. A subsequent investigation into Kase determined that she had been changing her child's diaper when the incident occurred.

The child, who is 20 months old, was taken to Ephrata Hospital in Lancaster County for treatment of the injuries and later transferred to Penn State Health - Milton S. Hershey Hospital in Hershey. He was released to the custody of his biological father.

Kase was arrested at her workplace on Feb. 13 and taken into custody. Bail information was not made available by authorities.
