Fake 'Deputy Sheriff' Scam Swindled Chesco Victims, Authorities Warn

A caller claiming to be a Chester County Deputy Sheriff collecting fines swindled victims of $1,200, authorities said.

EAST GOSHEN, PA — A caller claiming to be a Chester County Deputy Sheriff collecting fines swindled victims of $1,200, authorities said.

The incident was reported to the Chester County Sheriff's Office on Thursday by an East Goshen resident.

The caller said that the fines were due to "failing to respond to a jury summons" and demanded immediate payment. The victim then provided the scammer with the numbers for $1,200 worth of money cards, authorities said.

"Any such call is bogus and should be reported to authorities immediately," the Sheriff's Office said.

Similar scams often target the elderly. Residents are urged to speak with individuals who could be vulnerable to these types of tactics and tell them to exercise caution.
