Man Arrested For Fatal Chester Co. Hit And Run: Cops

An 80-year-old man was killed during a fatal hit and run earlier this week, and a local man is now in custody, police said.

EAST GOSHEN, PA — An 80-year-old man was killed during a fatal hit and run earlier this week, and a local man is now in custody, police said.

Arnaldo Jose Ortiz, 20, of Coatesville, fled the scene of the accident near Boot and Barker Drive at 9:05 a.m. on Nov. 19, police said.

Ortiz, driving a Honda Accord, made a left turn towards Barker Drive and struck a Toyota Solara, which was driven by Ralph Procopio, an 80-year-old East Goshen resident, according to authorities.

That's when Ortiz got out of his car fled the scene on foot. It's believed a neighbor confronted him near a shed (police would like to speak with that individual) before leaving the area.

Procopio and his elderly wife, a passenger in the car, were rushed to Paoli Hospital by Goshen Ambulance and Good Fellowship Ambulance Medics. Procopio later died of his injuries.

Ortiz showed up at the police department later that night and gave a statement. He was arrested Nov. 21.

He faces charges of accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, careless driving, failure to stop and give information and render aid, and related counts.

Bail was set at $100,000 and Ortiz was taken to Chester County Prison. A preliminary hearing is set for
