Operation Nighthawk: 114 Arrested For DUI In Chester County

State police arrested 114 DUI suspects across Chester County as part of the Operation Nighthawk initiative.

Pennsylvania state police arrested 114 DUI suspects across Chester County as part of the Operation Nighthawk initiative recently, they announced late last week.

Around 150 officers from several area police departments participated in the crackdown aimed at reducing the number of lethally impaired drivers from the roadways, and also spreading education about the dangers of drunk driving.

The enforcement campaign was executed in honor of Trooper Kenton Iwaniec, who was killed in a crash with a drunk driver in 2008. Iwaniec was working out of the Avondale barracks and was on his way home when the accident occurred, just two miles from the Troop J station.

Police added that Iwaniec's family came to the barracks to speak to the officers who participated in the crackdown.

Operation Nighthawk has taken place in previous years, also netting more than 100 arrests on multiple occasions.
