Schuylkill Expressway Closed Due To Flooding, PA Turnpike Reopens

Breaking: Heavy rains led to flooding on the Schuylkill Expressway and PA Turnpike Monday morning, causing the roadS to partially shut down.

Heavy rains led to flooding throughout southeastern Pennsylvania Monday morning, leading to closures on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Schuylkill Expressway.

The Schuylkill Expressway was shut down in both directions at around 11:30 a.m. in King of Prussia near Route 202.

Officials announced at around 9:45 a.m. that the turnpike was closed eastbound at Valley Forge (Exit 326) and closed westbound at Norristown (Exit 333). The road reopened before noon.

Water rescues were underway on many parts of the road. High water swamped multiple vehicles and trapped motorists near King of Prussia.

On the Turnpike, flooding is heaviest near milepost 328, officials said.

Traffic is being diverted onto nearby local roads, but these roads are also being flooded, the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety warns.

Traffic continues to be very heavy throughout the area.

Motorists are reminded to never drive through flooded areas, but to always turn around when they come to large pools of standing water.
