Phoenixville Schools Pay $155k For Road Improvements

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- The Phoenixville Are School Distirct is paying $155,000 for an eminent domain purchase of land that will allow for the expansion of Pothouse Road, according to reports.

The expansion was needed for PennDOT to make required improvements on Pothouse Road and Route 29 before construction could be approved on the Early Learning Center and Elementary School, the Pottstown Mercury reports.

The property obtained formerly belonged to residents Raymond and James Levin. They were unable to reach a deal with the district, so their land was seized via eminent domain, the report states.

The land is needed for drainage from the widened roads, according to the report.

The information only came out after a right to know request was filed, the report states. Residents at recent hearings said the district had a “transparency problem.”
