Police Address Speeding Complaints Near Phoenixville Schools
"99% of the people speeding in the school zone are ignoring the 15 MPH limit...to turn into the school."

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — After receiving numerous complaints regarding speeding near local schools, especially the Phoenixville Early Learning Center, Schuylkill Township Police were determined to investigate.
What they found, however, might be surprising to some who are concerned for the safety threat posed by speeding cars to students.
"99% of the people speeding in the school zone are ignoring the 15 MPH limit...to turn into the school," police said in a statement issued this week.

Almost all of the speeders, police found, were not cars driving all the way through the zone - they were probably parents or guardians dropping their own children off at school.
In fact, police said, from their hiding spot in the bushes, they only timed one vehicle that was speeding that did not turn into the school and continued through the zone.

"Even if you speed into the zone just to get to the school, you can still be stopped and cited," police added in their statement.
Fines for tickets range from $35 to $500, can include three points on your license, and a 60 day license suspension for your second offense.
Specifically, police are focused on speeding on W. Pothouse Road leading up to Manavon Elementary, but there have been speeding complaints throughout the Phoenixville school campus area.
"Please just take a minute and slow down. If you fly into the zone and get into an accident or worse, run over someone, you’re going to wish that a ticket was all you’re getting."
