In a town famous for small local businesses, ”local mom and pop shops” garnered only enough votes for second place, with 26%.
However, more atypical chain stores received only a comparatively small fraction of the vote.
And while Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are chains, their focus on local, healthy products sets them apart from more traditional nationwide corporations.
Seen that way, over 72% of Phoenixville respondents want healthy options that are at least locally oriented, rather than fast food chains.
As has been the case in other towns around the area, outdoor outfitters and general stores like Target and Walmart were not nearly as popular as supermarkets.
