The victim of a weekend fire in Chester County has been identified as a young boy, reports state.

EAST COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, PA — The victim of a weekend fire in Chester County has been identified as a 9-year-old boy, reports state.
The incident occurred at around 5 a.m. in East Coventry near the corner of Ellis Woods and Buckwalter roads, 6ABC said.
The fire, which has been declared accidental, likely began in the kitchen, according to Philly.com.

Pennsylvania State Police said that they believe the boy died from smoke inhalation.
The boy's father reportedly attempted to save him by climbing onto the roof and smashing a bedroom window, but was unsuccessful and injured himself in the process.
