Woman Digs Into Possum Carcass For Phantom Bullet In Phoenixville

Strange things were afoot during a spooky week last week in Phoenixville.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Strange things were afoot during a spooky week last few days in Phoenixville.

Among the most bizarre incidents reported was a woman who called police to the scene of a dead possum.

The incident occurred on the first block of E. Walnut Street at around 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 3. The scene was fittingly bizarre: late fall, dusk approaching, rotting jack-o-lanterns on the street curbs, a mysteriously deceased possum, and a potential witness with a theory of her own.

Police said that when they arrived, the woman insisted that the possum had been shot.

Then she began using her fingers to dig inside the carcass for the bullet to show the officers.

Police urged the woman not to put her bare hands on the dead animal, but she persisted. No bullet was found.

A cause of death for the possum was not determined.

Police eventually convinced the woman to dispose of the possum's body.

Elsewhere, at 5 a.m. on Monday morning, a 54-year-old woman with a bloody face was discovered lying on the side of the road on Township Line Road. Police said the woman said she was drunk and that she fell.

And at 5:42 a.m. on Saturday morning, family members were arguing so loudly about "Law and Order" on the 300 block of Brower Street that police had to warn them of a noise complaint.
