Pine-Richland School Board Keeps Meeting Short and Simple
Members honor retiring school board secretary Carolyn Boice.

Pine-Richland School Board President Stephen Hawbaker promised that the board meeting would be short and simple Monday night in honor of Carolyn Boice.
After 27 years as the school board secretary, Boice is retiring.
“You taught us so much about this community, about this district,” Hawbaker said. “Thank you for everything.”

Boice received a standing ovation from the board and the audience in recognition for her service to the Pine-Richland School District.
“I have to say after 27 years, every school board member has been so nice. Each one has been dedicated to the education of the district,” she said, “Keep up the good work.”

In keeping with Hawbaker’s promise, the board indeed kept its meeting short.
Rachel Hathhorn, director of communications, recognized the class of 2011, noting that more than 370 scholarships worth more than $6.6 million were awarded to this class, compared to the $3.5 million awarded last year. The Pine-Richland Opportunities Fund awarded more than $22,000, she said.
Hathhorn also noted other achievements of the Class of 2011, including the selection of recent graduate by the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday in the NHL draft.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Bucci also told the board the is on schedule.
“They delivered six loads of steel which is very good news. I went away and when I came back, things looked worst than when I had left,” she said laughing, “But that is what they had planned. Things are moving forward.”.
A new Eden Hall Upper Elementary School Student Handbook will be released on July 1. It will be available on the district website.
The board's next meeting will be a combined planning and regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18 at the .
