10 Events To Make October Awesome Around Pittsburgh
Step out of the pumpkin patch long enough to check out these great entertainment events occurring in October.
PITTSBURGH, PA - If you think October is all about Phantom Fright Nights and haunted houses and hayrides around town, think again. Although the Pittsburgh area has some of the best Halloween-related attractions, there's plenty of arts and entertainment activities around town during the month that don't involve a masked stranger approaching you with a chainsaw.
Here are 10 such events:
- Phil Collins, Oct. 2, PPG Paints Arena
It's been more than two decades since Phil Collins performed in Pittsburgh as a solo artist, but the former Genesis frontman will rectify that as he brings the Still Not Dead Yet tour to Pittsburgh. Collins has had a bevy of hits as a solo performer, including "In the Air Tonight," "Against All Odds," "Easy Lover," Sussudio," and "I Don't Care Anymore." He had plenty more while he was the lead singer for Genesis for two decades and will perform several of those as well, including "Invisible Touch."

- Pittsburgh Fashion Week Runway Fashion Show, Oct. 3, PPG Place Wintergarden
Pittsburgh Fashion Week’s grand finale is the renowned Runway Fashion Show at the Wintergarden at PPG Place. This event gives local designers and models the chance to showcase their work and find their place in Pittsburgh’s fashion community.
- Beer and Bourbon Tasting Cruise, Oct. 4, Gateway Clipper
Enjoy a riverboat cruise of Pittsburgh featuring a great variety of national and international beers and some of the best bourbon the country has to offer. Taste them all on this three-hour tour and wash down your h’ors d’oeuvres with some high-quality adult beverages.

- Hugh Jackman, Oct. 9, PPG Paints Arena
Hugh Jackman, the Academy Award-nominated star known for his roles in "Les Miserables" and the X-Men movies, brings his "The Man. The Music. The Show" tour to town. Adcording to the tour's website, there will be a live orchestra and hit songs from " Les Miserables, " "The Greatest Showman," "The Boy From Oz" and more.
- Chainsmokers, Oct. 11, PPG Paints Arena
The Chainsmokers will bring their World War Joy tour to Pittsburgh along with 5 Seconds of Summer and Lennon Stella. The electronic pop music superstars are best known for hits such as "Something Just Like This" (featuring Coldplay), "Don't Let Me Down" (featuring Pittsburgh's own Daya) and "Closer" featuring Halsey. The band last played Pittsburgh in 2017.
- Carrie Underwood, Oct. 12, PPG Paints Arena
The country star bring her Cry Pretty tour to town in support of last year's "Cry Pretty" album, her first release of new material since 2015's "Storyteller." Maddie & Tae and Runaway June will be the opening acts.
- Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Oct. 17, PPG Paints Arena
Seger's farewell Roll Me Away tour that kicked off last November finally makes a Pittsburgh stop. Expect to hear legendary Seger hits such as "Night Moves," "Still the Same," and "Against the Wind." Seger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.
- Andy Warhol Museum 25th Anniversary Celebration, Oct. 19-20, Andy Warhol Museum, North Side.
Since its opening in 1994, the Warhol has become a global destination for Andy Warhol’s life, art, and relevance to contemporary culture. In honor of its 25th Anniversary, the museum will host a gala event on Oct. 19. The anniversary celebration also includes the opening of a special exhibition, Andy Warhol: Revelation, a contemporary art auction, late night dance party with guest DJ, and a free community day on Sunday October, 20th.
- The Office! A Musical Parody, Oct. 18-19, Byham Theater, Downtown
Singing! Dancing! Paper! It’s a typical morning at Scranton’s third largest paper company until, for no logical reason, a documentary crew begins filming the lives of the employees of Dunder Mifflin. This unauthorized parody of the hit TV show “The Office,” featuring songs such as “Welcome to Scranton (The Electric City),” “That’s What She Said,” “The Dundies,” “Marry Me Beesly,” and more.
- Mean Girls, Oct. 29-Nov. 3, Benedum Center, Downtown.
Direct from Broadway, “Mean Girls” is the hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team, including book writer Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), composer Jeff Richmond (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), lyricist Nell Benjamin (“Legally Blonde”) and director Casey Nicholaw (“The Book of Mormon”).
