Allegheny County Again Revises Coronavirus Death Count Downward

Here are the latest coronavirus case statistics for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA - For the second time in a week, Allegheny County has revised its coronavirus death count downward. After announcing a death toll of 87 on Tuesday, the county changed the number to 86 on Wednesday.

County officials attributed the revision to a data error.

Two hundred and twenty eight people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 222 on Tuesday and 213 on Monday.

With 388 confirmed cases in Beaver County, 383 in Westmoreland County, 174 in Butler County and 109 in Washington County, that brings the total number of cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 2,376. That's up from 2,376 on Tuesday.

According to the state Department of Health, there have now been been 173 coronavirus deaths
thus far in the five-county region: Eighty-six in Allegheny County, 59 in Beaver County, 20 in Westmoreland County, six in Butler County and two in Washington County. That's up from 160 on Tuesday and 152 on Monday.

According to state Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the ninth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Berks, Bucks, Delaware, Lehigh, Luzerene, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia counties.

Gov. Tom Wolf has extended the stay-at-home order for all Pennsylvania counties until May 8, and has said the state will begin gradually reopening in May. Schools will remain closed through the end of the academic year.
