Allegheny County Coronavirus Death Toll Jumps Significantly

Allegheny County experienced the deadliest day yet in the coronavirus outbreak.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Allegheny County experienced the larges single-day number of coronavirus deaths since the outbreak began Tuesday, with four people succumbing to COVID-19. The coronavirus death toll in the county as of 11 a.m. Wednesday is 10, according to the county health department.

The county's confirmed coronavirus cases have increased to 720 as of 11 a.m. Wednesday. That's up from 689 on Tuesday and 642 on Monday.

One hundred and thirteen people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 101 on Tuesday and 92 on Monday.

With 177 confirmed cases in Westmoreland County, 116 in Beaver County, 107 in Butler County and 57 in Washington County, that brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 1,177 as of Tuesday morning. That's up from 1,086 as of Tuesday morning and 1,010 as of Monday.

According to the state Department of Health, there have been 21 coronavirus deaths thus far in the five-county region: Ten in Allegheny County, nine in Beaver County and two in Butler County.

According to state Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the fourth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

All Pennsylvania counties remain under a stay-at-home order through at least April 30. Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered schools and non-life-sustaining businesses closed indefinitely.
