Allegheny County Coronavirus Death Toll Skyrockets

Here are the latest coronvirus case statistics for Allegheny County and Westmoreland County.

UPDATED, 1;30 p.m.: Allegheny County provided an erroneous number of total deaths on Friday, initially reporting 20 when the correct number is 18. In an email to the media, the county health department explained that information was misread when pulled for its daily update and that two deaths should not have been included - as one test was negative for coronavirus and the other was negative. This story has been updated to reflect the county's corrected number of deaths.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Thursday was the deadliest day yet in Allegheny County during the coronavirus outbreak. Six people died, raising the death toll from 12 to 18, according to the county health department.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county increased to 788 as of 11 a.m. Friday. That's up from 759 on Thursday and 720 on Wednesday.

One hundred and twenty-four people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 117 on Thursday and 113 on Wednesday.

With 190 confirmed cases in Westmoreland County, 129 in Beaver County, 113 in Butler County and 63 in Washington County, that brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the five-county
southwestern Pennsylvania region to 1,283 as of Friday. That's up from 1,242 on Thursday and 1,177 on Wednesday.

According to the state Department of Health, there have now been been 34 coronavirus deaths thus far in the five-county region: Eighteen in Allegheny County, 13 in Beaver County, two in Butler County and one in Westmoreland County. That's up from 28 on Thursday.

According to state Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the fourth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

All Pennsylvania counties remain under a stay-at-home order through at least April 30. Gov. Tom
Wolf has ordered schools and non-life-sustaining businesses closed indefinitely.
