Allegheny County Flu Death Toll Rises

Three more people in the county have died from the flu.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Attention has focused on the coronavirus, but the flu has been deadlier in the Pittsburgh metro area. Three more people have died from influenza in Allegheny County, bringing the total number of flu deaths this season to 15.

According to the county health department, two individuals were in their 70s and one was in their early 60s. All had underlying medical conditions.

The health department says flu activity remains high in the area and across Pennsylvania. Over the past six weeks, the county has had roughly 800 reported flu cases each week.

Those numbers are much lower than what was reported near the end of the 2019 flu season, but the health department is reminding people to take common sense precautions and practice health habits to limit the spread of germs.
