PITTSBURGH, PA — The nation's largest book retailer is adding another location in the Pittsburgh area. Barnes & Noble will open a location in a new development currently under construction in Shadyside.

Along with a 36,000-square foot Giant Eagle Market District store and a Shake Shack eatery, Barnes & Noble has been added to the online list of pending tenants of The Meridian. In addition to the retail component, the five-acre property at the corner of Shady and Penn Avenues also will house a 231-unit apartment complex.

The new bookstore will be close to a former Borders books location that closed when that chain went out of business several years ago. Barnes & Noble also had another nearby location in Squirrel Hill, but shuttered that store years ago.
