Here are the top stories today in Pittsburgh:

1) A man was critically wounded early Tuesday in a shooting in the 100 block of North Negley Avenue in East Liberty. Police responded to the scene at around 12:20 a.m. and found the man had a gunshot wound to the chest. They administered CPR before EMS personnel arrived and took him to an area hospital. Angela Vaughn, 42, of East Liberty was arrested in the incident, which is believed to be domestic-related. Vaughn has been charged with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault. She currently is housed in the Allegheny County Jail.

2) A Christmas morning fire in Butler County wiped away a local town market and took the homes of four people living upstairs. Bright orange flames and heavy smoke consumed the air through West Sunbury on Sunday. It's all anyone could see from miles away. Brienna Simmons watched, in shock, knowing it was coming from Thompson's Market downtown. It was a landmark and the only food market in the tight-knit community. Now, they will have to drive miles away to get their groceries. "Everybody that worked there, they treated you like family. You would walk in and they knew you by name," Simmons said. West Sunbury Fire Chief, Reid Campbell, said they got called to the scene just after 10 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found fire in the basement traveling through the building. Between a lack of visibility and hydrants, along with high winds and bitter cold, it took several hours to get the fire under control, and save the other structures nearby. The building is a total loss, destroying two apartment units and the market inside. A mom and her teenage son and daughter, along with an elderly man are now without a home. First responders transported the man to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The mom and two teens escaped unharmed. No one was in the market at the time. All of them are already filled with support from the community.

3) A pipe burst, closing a local museum in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood. Bicycle Heaven, the popular shop and museum was closed on Monday, and it will likely remain closed for the next week. Display cases, bikes vintage gear and the carpeting were soaked on Saturday due to the flooding inside. A co-founder told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that losses could reach $100,000. He said floodwaters rose two-to-four inches on the first floor, with around three feet of water in the basement.

4) The U.S. Department of Transportation said it will look into flight cancellations by Southwest Airlines that have left travelers stranded at airports across the country amid an intense winter storm that has killed dozens of people. Many airlines were forced to cancel flights due to the weather, but Southwest was the most affected. About 4,000 domestic U.S. flights were cancelled Monday, according to the tracking website FlightAware, and 2,900 of those were Southwest's. More than 2,800 more flights had already been canceled by all airlines operating in the U.S. as of 7 a.m. Tuesday and problems are likely to continue at least into Wednesday. At Pittsburgh International Airport, more than 35 Southwest flights for Tuesday have been canceled, with another 38 listed as canceled for Wednesday. On Monday, 36 Southwest flights were canceled. Passengers stood in long lines trying to rebook their flights. The Department of Transportation said on Twitter that it was "concerned by Southwest's unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays & reports of lack of prompt customer service." The tweet said the department would look into whether Southwest could have done anything about the cancellations and whether the airline was complying with its customer service plan.

5) Most years, INEZ says, she likes to "keep things simple" on New Year's Eve. "Some years I do nothing," the Pittsburgh R&B/soul singer and self-proclaimed "FireShorty," says. "Some years I spend with friends and family. As long as I'm warm and have good food and love around me, I'm content." Ringing in 2023? Not simple. INEZ will take the stage at Liberty Avenue and Stanwix Street, Downtown, in front of thousands to headline Highmark First Night, the annual bash presented by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. "It's very surreal," INEZ says. "It's not lost on me that I'm a Black woman from Homewood getting to bring in the New Year for Pittsburgh. I feel honored, I feel seen, and I feel so very grateful to be chosen for the job. I'm just ready to have fun, because it's taken a lot of work and sacrifice to get to this point."She will cap a free evening Downtown that will begin at 6 p.m. with the Dollar Bank Children's Fireworks in front of the Benedum Center on 7th Street, followed by Williams SING-OFF winner Madelyn Buffone, a senior at Marion Center High School in Indiana County. Among the other highlights: the giant puppet parade on Penn, an Ice Maze by Ice Creations founder Richard Bubin at the Backyard at 8th & Penn, reggae band 4-Yaadi, the Highmark Holiday Block Party & AHN Family Zone, a high-intensity dance and digital imagery installation by Japanese artist Hiroaki Umeda at Wood Street Galleries, Laurel & Hardy shorts at the Harris Theater. INEZ will hit the stage at 10:45 p.m. and conclude her set just before midnight, when the Future of Pittsburgh Ball will be raised atop Penn Avenue Place and Pyrotechnico will light the fuse for a fireworks finale.
