Bigelow Boulevard On Pitt Campus Getting Major Makeover
The project will close a portion of the heavily-traveled street for nine months.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The University of Pittsburgh and city of Pittsburgh are planning a makeover of a block-long section of Bigelow Boulevard on the Pitt campus and it won't be inexpensive. The $23.7 million project will keep Bigelow between Forbes and Fifth avenues closed from November 1 until August 2020.
Plans call for the vehicular lanes to be reconfigured and the addition of improved bike lanes and a safer central crossing between the William Pitt Union and Cathedral of Learning. The project also will upgrade the university's utilities in the construction area.
Mavis Rainey, executive director of the Oakland Transportation Management Association, lauded the impending work on the street.

“Bigelow Boulevard is a major throughway for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and motorists," Rainey said in a statement. "The planned multimodal improvements will enhance the safety of the street, making it more accommodating for all users, including those needing accessible parking for shuttle and individual pick-ups and drop-offs.”
