Here are the top stories today in Pittsburgh:
1) Pittsburgh Police are searching for Kevin Derrick Crews, 37, of Northview Heights, who has been accused of shooting his wife on Monday afternoon, then leaving her stranded on heavily traveled Interstate 579 near Downtown Pittsburgh. Reports state that Crews shot his wife, Shauntorria Crews, in the leg around 1:30 p.m. during an argument they were having in the car while Shauntorria Crews was driving to work. Contrary to initial reports, Shauntorria Crews was not thrown from the vehicle, but exited it. Kevin Crews then went to the driver's seat and drove off, leaving Shauntorria Crews stranded on I-579 near the Boulevard of the Allies, police said. Shauntorria Crews was taken to the hopsital, where she is listed in serious but stable condition.
2) The city is currently seeking volunteer 'snow angels,' a name given to folks who offer to help clear sidewalks for their elderly, disabled neighbors. The city's Snow Angels Program pairs volunteers with neighbors who can't shovel their own sidewalks to ensure that sidewalks are shoveled and salted during inclement weather. "This program provides a vital service for our neighbors in need and ensures that our sidewalks stay safe for everyone during and after winter weather events," Mayor Ed Gainey said. Data from past years showed that there aren't enough volunteers to meet demand throughout the city, officials said. To close the gap, the city is looking to partner with community-based organizations, youth sports leagues, faith-based groups and employers to provide extra snow angel volunteers in several Pittsburgh neighborhoods that need extra volunteers: Beechview; Brighton Heights; Brookline; Carrick; East Liberty; Elliott; Greenfield; Hill District; Homewood; Manchester; Marshall-Shadeland; Mount Washington; Perry South; Sheraden; Stanton Heights. Officials said the program aims to ensure sidewalks are safe for people who have to use them during inclement weather, including postal workers and first responders. Volunteers can register online at the city's website.

4) According to city officials, nearly $1 million dollars has been awarded to over 30 Pittsburgh organizations from Stop the Violence Grants. Organizations had the ability to get funding via request for a variety of community initiatives, ranging from academic supports and sport programs to family-strengthening activities and mental health counseling for high-risk individuals. "These grants are valuable for the city of Pittsburgh because this is the first time in our governmental history that the Mayor's Office and City Council have provided this opportunity to include our community partners to help stop the violence," Assistant Public Safety Director David Jones said. Much of the city's Stop the Violence Fund is distributed in grants to community organizations. It also funds some internal initiatives in city government, like the Office of Community Health and Safety.

5) Altius on Mount Washington has opened its doors again after 6 months of closure. A a stolen pick-up truck which crashed into the restaurant back in May caused the business to be inoperable for a time. Although no one has ever been arrested, the owner said she's still grateful to welcome back about 100 guests Monday night. "This is a festive place to dine. We expect to be really busy from the get-go. Mick and I have done everything possible to make sure that this is a smooth and seamless opening," Altius proprietor Josephine DeFrancis said. Altius opened its doors once again just in time for the holidays. "The chefs have had six months to think about this menu," DeFrancis said.
