Consumer Alert Issued For Pittsburgh Convenience Store-Grocery

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Homewood's Quick Pick convenience store and grocery on Frankstown Avenue in Homewood.

During a Nov. 3 inspection, a live mouse was seen in a box with bags of corn curls. Mouse droppings and shreds of packaging were "all over the cardboard flats full of chips," according to the inspection report.

Mouse droppings and nesting material were found in cabinets under the slushie machine; mouse droppings also were found around the perimeter of the store and in back room.

The inspection also revealed chewed bags of popcorn and chips in the chip aisle and chewed packages of Ramen noodles.

The three compartment sink is not fully functional because the store has no hot water and a drain pipe is missing under the left basin. Dish detergent was not present at start of inspection.

The employee restroom lacked soap and towels.

The store remains open while the alert is in place.
