Consumer Alert Issued For Popular Pittsburgh Tavern

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Hough's Taproom on Greenfield Avenue in Greenfield.
An inspection Thursday found two live cockroaches in the bar area and cockroach egg cases in the basement prep area. A dead decayed mouse was found under the stairs in the basement area, and heavily soiled fly strips stored over food prep equipment in the the basement prep area.
Evidence of rodent tracking powder (boric acid) was found in the bar, dining and brewing area, behind the salad prep cooler and in the pizza prep area. The most recent pest control document produced was in May, which an inspector deemed "inadequate."

Inspectors also found a black, mold-like substance on the food-contact surface of the ice machine. Mold was observed in the slicer of the kitchen area, and the dishwasher in the bar area was not working. Long-term mold growth was observed on multiple foods stored in a walk-in cooler.
Inspectors also found coleslaw in the walk-in cooler that expired in July, and foods being stored at unsafe temperatures.
